60 Seconds with Qantas

We pride ourselves on the breadth of travel products and choice we offer. CTM offers its clients hundreds of travel suppliers to choose from, so every now and then we shine the spotlight on one of these and take 60 Seconds to learn more about them and the key staff we work closely with to deliver outstanding, affordable business travel services.

This month it's time to meet Qantas. We caught up with their Account Executive Angela Jaques to fill us in on Australia's national airline. Over to you Angela!

Tell us about Qantas, what are your main routes?

From London Heathrow, Qantas operates double daily A380 flights to Australia, via Dubai, offering travellers a convenient choice of afternoon or evening departure. Once in Australia, Qantas have the largest Australian domestic network to make getting around easy.

We also have some exciting network changes that will come into play from 25th March 2018. Firstly, we will commence non-stop flights from London to Perth using the 787-9 Dreamliner. The 14,498km flight will take approximately 17 hours and will be the first regular passenger service to directly link Australia with Europe.

Qantas will also re-route its daily Sydney-London A380 service via Singapore rather than Dubai and upgrade its existing daily Melbourne-Singapore flight from an A330 to an A380.

With the Qantas Emirates partnership, passengers will have a choice of three options to Australia and New Zealand – via Dubai, Perth and Singapore.

Please tell us a little about your role Angela

As an Account Executive for Qantas I am a key point of contact for my clients, which include TMCs and corporate companies we work with. I enjoy getting out to meet consultants not only to provide updates on Qantas’ latest news, but also to discover invaluable feedback on what we do well and where there are opportunities. At the moment I’m busy shouting about our new routes so that everyone is as excited as me for them to start!

What are the key things you would like TMCs like ourselves and our clients to know about your services?

With one of the world’s greatest networks, award-winning aircraft and outstanding inflight service, there’s no better way to fly. With Qantas, you will arrive at your end destination, relaxed, refreshed and ready for the day ahead.

Your journey starts from the moment you leave your front door with Chauffeur Drive. Our transfers are complimentary for customers travelling in International First and Business on flights between London, Dubai, Australia and from next March, Singapore as well.

Fly with Qantas and you'll enjoy one of the finest inflight dining experiences found anywhere in the world. This season, the cuisines of the world are the inspiration for a wide range of new dishes made from freshest seasonal ingredients.

Whether you’re relaxing, working, being entertained or sleeping, we want you to fly in contemporary comfort.

What new or upcoming offerings do you have currently for business travellers?

London is the location for Qantas' next flagship global lounge, opening late 2017. The premium lounge will occupy a split-level space in Terminal 3 that will have capacity for approximately 230 people and offer views over the Heathrow airfield. Its design will combine the signature features of Qantas' award-winning facilities in other ports with local touches to make the design and experience distinctively London.

We’re also changing the way corporate customers travel to Australia with our Dreamliner non-stop flight to Perth commencing early next year. Qantas customers are set to benefit from smoother connections and improved facilities at Perth Airport with a new integrated domestic and international passenger hub. It will feature a large outdoor deck with alfresco seating, a streamlined immigration and customs area to enable a faster transfer experience, additional food and beverage outlets and a new Duty Free store.

All of the Qantas’ domestic flights, as well as services to Singapore, Auckland and London, will operate from the new facility. Perth will become the western hub for Qantas’ international services to and from London.

Can you briefly outline the different classes of travel with Qantas?

Qantas international A380 services from London offer 4 cabins to passengers. Some features include:

Economy: A complimentary snack bar for all passengers.

Premium Economy: Intimate cabin on the upper deck, with dedicated crew and a-la-carte style dining.

International Business: Award-winning fully-flat Skybed and complimentary pyjamas for all passengers. There is also a bar/lounge area on the upper deck.

International First: Enjoy our unique restaurant-style dining experience, all meals are designed by Neil Perry, prepared on-board and made to order with the finest ingredients.

What do you offer corporate and frequent flyers?

Qantas Frequent Flyer Silver = oneworld Ruby

Qantas Frequent Flyer Gold = oneworld Sapphire

Qantas Frequent Flyer Platinum and Platinum One = oneworld Emerald

From the many destinations Qantas serves, could you pick out an especially hot one for 2018 and tell us why it’s one to watch?

Seemingly endless sunshine, pristine sandy beaches plus great food and world-class local wines – there’s nowhere quite like Perth.

With the promise of an easy going lifestyle, stunning sandy beaches, world class wines and a sophisticated dining scene, the city attracts thousands of new residents every week. Plus just outside the city lies one of the most spectacular natural environments on earth waiting to be explored.

Perth is ideal gateway to Australia and Qantas will get you there in style with our brand new Business, Premium Economy and Economy product on board our Dreamliner 787-9 commencing non-stop from London in March 2018.

Is there anything else you'd like to share with us about Qantas?

We're the second oldest operating airline in the world. That's right, we've been flying since 1920. The Kangaroo Route linking UK and Australia used to take four days and seven stops but now we’re able to link Australia and UK in a single hop.

Project Sunrise is Qantas’ challenge to Airbus and Boeing to the extend the flying range of their next generation of long haul aircraft to make direct flights from the east coast of Australia such as Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane to cities including London, Paris and New York a reality by 2022.
